Working on a Human Carrier, trying to maintain the pointy aesthetic of the Dart between all human ships.

As you can see from the turnarounds, I still have to model the back bits, I have also included a dart for a size reference, the Carrier holds 8 Darts and can launch all at once via the 4 chutes on the underside of each side segment.

As always, click the pictures to embigafy, comments and crits are always welcome. I'll post another update once the back end is complete.

If you watch my Deviant Art account you might have seen this model before, I finished it up a few months ago and it will serve as one of the main playable ships in one of our upcoming shooters. I've been experimenting with several different color schemes and right now I'm tweaking the red and silver with blue hexagons. Be sure to let me know what you think.

Hey guys! It's been a while, sorry for not posting more updates on the Rotunda thing, the laptop I was using for that crapped out a while back and I lost pretty much everything related to it, not really a big loss but I may get back to it in the future.

ANYWAY, I wanted to formally announce the CORE Games Media Net, basically me and my buddies down here in Florida have come together to form a group based around making games, skits, comics, let's plays, and generally just having fun, for those of you are more interested in the games aspect, we have several projects in the planning stages, most of which I can't talk about just yet, but in the coming days I will start uploading art work related to the one I have the most personal interest in. It will hopefully update every night I've worked on something, showing you my progress for the day, rather then just showing the completed model like with what I was doing for the LA3D stuff.

If you are interested in CORE Games in general, we have a blog, YouTube account, and a daily updated comic set up. For those who aren't interested in any of that, I will continue to update this blog with information, renders, etc for projects I am personally working on.

Please be aware that we are going to be in the process of moving over the next few days, so if you don't see any updates it will be because we don't have internet set up in the new place yet.

Checking in and Rotunda part 1

Hey guys, long time no post. The shmup is currently underway but I'm waiting on concept/ref art at the moment, so I decided to whip up a quick map for Halo Custom Edition. Thought it would be fun to show you snapshots of it as I work.

To start off, here is a quick ms paint sketch of the level's layout

I actually sketched it out in a notebook first, but I don't have access to a scanner.

The map will have three floors, centered around a large pillar, the "bases" and flag spawns will be right next to each other on the second floor, but with a wall separating them forcing players to go around the long way.

Players have several paths they can take to get around the map:

They can jump down to the first floor which offers the shortest path between bases, but is effectively a kill zone offering no cover and plenty of places to be attacked from.

They can take the middle path, above and going around the edge of the first floor, this path is a longer route, but offers more cover and gives you a pretty good advantage over anyone on the first floor.

They can also take the outer path, a long curving hallway around the outside of the map. This is the longest route, but also the safest.

There are one way teleporters near both bases that lead to a small ledge on the third floor which holds a power weapon (Rocket Launcher on Slayer and Oddball, Sniper Rifle on Capture the Flag and King of the Hill)

This is a small sized map which should be great for 4 to 8 players.

I'll be back in a bit with the level blocked out and in game to test the layout.

So hey, arrived down here in Florida a week ago, just got my internet connection. To celebrate, have the LA3D level data! Overworld, Dungeons, Houses, and Caves all in .obj format, plus textures and music. Characters, Items, and Scenery will be posted later.

Been busy discussing potential projects with my friends down here, most likely going to be working on a Shump, with a Star Fox style arcade shooter on the back burner, I'll be posting progress on this projects as they develop just like LA3D, should be fun.

And that's it! The Egg is complete, and with it, this nearly 2 year long project!

I had a lot of fun working on this, and would like to thank everyone who has followed me on this project, and everyone who has helped me.

I wish I could keep this going and make a full game out of it, but I lack the programming skills required to do so. Instead I am going to release the Soundtrack composed by the wonderful Dan Vithyavuthi for this project, as well as all my 3d models, maybe someone will find use for them.

I'm going to be on a temporary hiatus for a bit, as I am happy to announce that in August I will be moving from Washington to Orlando Florida to start an indie game company with some of my friends. I will also be doing more non-game projects, such as game reviews, let's plays, and a series about what I have learned as a game tester, in my free time. The hope is to get more active, get my name out there, and get some indie games released.

Note: Volume 1 of the OST contains all the songs Dan made before he had to quit due increasing work load from college. When he has the time I will commission him to finish up the remaining tracks and release them as Volume 2.

I want to thank every one for your kind support, with out it I doubt I would have gotten as far as I did, seriously, thank you all.

Right now I plan on finishing up the 8th dungeon in one mega post, followed by a short update with the egg, and download for all the model files, and a small thank you gift for every one who has been following this little adventure.

After that I'm going to take a break for a month or so. Fix up some issues with my social life, get some sorely needed exercise in, and do a lot of planning. Got a game idea that I think I can actually pull off, so I'll be saving up some funds so I can hire people to help me out with that, I might put up a donation button to help fund the thing but I would rather pay out of my own pocket ; ).

Stressed to Hell

Due to a variety of factors, including a borked social life, I'm going to be dropping off the internet for a bit. How long? No idea. What does this mean for LA3D? I might work on it here and there, but for the most part you may as well call it "on hold".

I am going to be honest, working on this thing all by my self for almost two years has left me drained, Dan is busy with college and doesn't have time to spend on a fan game, same with everyone who has attempted to program for me, more important things come up, and I honestly can't afford to hire some programmers full time to get this thing done. Do I want to quit? No, but at this point I think I would rather focus on things I can actually finish, Link's Awakening was a huge, complex game that had a full dev team working on it, not just one guy.

Again, lack of programmer support isn't the main reason why I'm going away for a bit, blame the BS that is my social life for that. For now, I'll probably finish up the eighth dungeon and maybe the egg, then release a pack of all the models I've completed, maybe someone who knows programming will be able to make use of it.

tl;dr: I'm stressed as Hell, putting LA3D on hold once I finish the last dungeon, will release a model pack, then I'm dropping off the internet for a bit.

I wasn't supposed to tell you this, but I'm too excited! Last week, Nintendo Co. LTD. (Nintendo of Japan) contacted me with an offer to develop LA3D as a launch title for the newly announced Nintendo 3DS, which, of course, I accepted. So what does this mean? Unfortunetly, it means I won't be allowed to post in progress shots of everything as it is made, and LA3D will not be released on the PC or Mac, but it will be released along with the 3DS and it will be taking full advantage of the systems 3D capabilities!

I would say more, but I'm under a pretty strict NDA, so I have to keep my mouth shut until E3, see you there!

Busy working on the engine, trying to figure out how to implement the overworld.
I'm thinking instead of having the entire island loaded as one big area, I'll separate it into chunks based off of the in game areas (village, forest, beach, etc) would mean smaller load times and it would increase performance on older computers, thoughts?

Also, once I get the basic mechanics implemented, I will probably put up a public alpha for feedback on the movement, physics, controls, etc. (this will not be the beta that I have planned for later, which will basically be the actual game up til the first dungeon) The public alpha (and all subsequent releases) will be PC and Mac compatible, and will come in both downloadable and web based forms.

Before we being, I have to say, I am disappointed in some of you. I approve every comment before it will appear on the site, and for the most part the only comments I reject are spam comments made to 3 month old posts, but during this contest I rejected multiple comments talking about how bad entry 2 was and some telling the creator to "go kill himself". This is not cool guys.

Constructive criticism is always welcome, but this is a project blog for a remake of an E rated game, hateful comments and out right attacks against people will not be appreciated. The fact that you will be able to easily change any texture in the game on release just makes this all the more pathetic. If you don't like something say it without being a dick or don't say it at all.

In light of this and other reasons, there won't be any more polls/contests for a while.

With that out of the way, here are our final numbers for the contest:

For those wondering, here are the reasons why I chose each finalist:

1. Interesting design, even if it is lacking in some detail, supprisingly, the only submission I got with an Eagle in the center.

2. While all other submissions where in shades of green and mostly contained references to the Wind Fish, this one took a completely separate route, and actually got me thinking about having some form of thunder storm going on during the battle. Although I would probably make the raindrops swirling towards the center instead of straight up and down (and maybe a new cloud) this submission was chosen for its originality, and not as a joke as some have assumed.

3. A really great, if traditional, submission. It fits in with the rest of the tower really well and has a great central design.

4. Another design that doesn't follow the Wind Fish/Eagle style that most went with. Rather simple, but I like it, might work better on a light house or in some form of sun temple...

5. My personal favorite, a really great design and an awesome take on the Wind Fish, only real problem is the outer bricks don't blend well with the rest of the tower, but I would love to use this Wind Fish design elsewhere, maybe in the egg...

Nils, Roland, Mr. Burgundy, and Katie, with your permission, I would like to find other places in the game where your textures would fit.

Alright, let's have a little fun! I'm not exactly super happy with the texture I'm using for the top of the Eagle's Tower (where you fight the boss), so I'm going to hold a little contest!
At the bottom of the post you will find the texture I am currently using for the top of the tower, along with a blank template showing the outlines of the tower. All you have to do is take that template and make a new texture.
-All textures must be 128x128 pixels in size
-Supported formats are .bmp .gif .jpg and .png
-No profanity or "NSFW" imagery

Once you have made your texture, either email it to me at lordmithos@gmail.com with the words "LA3D Contest" somewhere in the subject line OR upload it to imageshack then post it in the comments!

So yeah, I'm pretty sure the Eastern Mountain range has the most amount of cave systems in the game, it might be a bit before we reach the Eagle's Tower.

Hey all, hope you're enjoying the new year. I haven't started on the next cave area yet, been busy tweaking up the Island a bit to look better, among other things. You can see some of what I've been working on below, I will be starting work on the Easter Mountain caves tonight.

I return! Sorry about the week of downtime, that's what I get for having parts in my computer that require more power then the computer can give them. Anyway, here are three quadrants I got done before my computer completely died, I'll have more tomorrow.

PC update

Okay, I heard back from the shop about my PC today. Turns out my power supply isn't powerful enough to run my PC and the huge graphics card I installed a little over a year ago, meaning its been struggling this whole time to keep my computer running and has decided to give up. I will be back up and running as soon as my new power supply arrives.

Hey all, sorry for the lack of recent updates, the server move has required more time and effort on my end then I originally thought. I am going to try making at least one quadrant update a day, rather then 5 on Saturday and 5 on Sunday, hopefully I will be able to ramp up production to pre-work levels.

Thank you for your patience, I hope to have a new demo ready by Christmas, but considering my luck with dates I wouldn't put too much hope into that, at the very least there will be a new trailer showing off some more music.

Exactly one year ago today I launched this little project blog in order to show my progress as I attempted to make a 3D version of Koholint Island. Where are we now? The Island is complete, as are over half of the Dungeons, and the personal goal of simply making a 3D model of an island has evolved into an effort to fully remake the original game!

I would like to take this moment to thank those who have followed me from the beginning, suffering through multiple set backs due to data loss, and the unending struggle against the cliffs, as well as the new readers who have stumbled upon this little project over the past 12 months. Thank you everyone, without your support I'm fairly certain I would have given up after the model file became corrupted.

I would also like to laugh at those who said I would be shut down long before I finished the Island, but I won't laugh too hard, nothing wrong with being cautiously pessimistic.

As a present to you all, from /v/irgins to new comers, I am happy to present an awesome teaser trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening 3D!

A note, that awesome logo you saw in the trailer? That image was made by a reader who's name I in all honesty can't remember. He sent it to me back in March, when I completed the Island and I have since then lost the e-mail. I want to say it was Fizz but I'm not sure. You know who you are, please send me an e-mail ( lordmithos@gmail.com ) so I can properly credit you!

After a year long hiatus, Metroid Online has just released a new map for Halo Custom Edition!

Maridia is a cave-like area from Super Metroid. It consisted of both wet and dry areas, but this version consists solely of the wet area. Fish swim around its dark and foggy halls, and Space Pirate tech is littered all over the place. Maridia is a very dark place, so you are encouraged to use your flashlight!

This is the first of our maps to have reached what we consider a playable state, and so we have decided to release a public beta so we can get input on what would make both the map and the mod content more enjoyable. We are looking to get reports on bugs/glitches, oddities, and anything else that you think we need to take care of before a final release. Ideally, by the end of this we will have a balanced tagset that can be applied to any map without much adjustment.

- Suit Up, Dive In, and Fight to the Death! -

The Mod consists of the following:
·Samus Aran biped with custom animations and textures
·4 beams from the original games: Power, Plasma, Wave and Spazer

·2 new beams: Havoc Beam and Force Beam

·Melee: Samus uses a beam sword... thingy. It's a concentrated beam of light from her beam cannon. Works on every weapon.

·Super Missile Power-up: You automatically pick it up when you run over it, and it will allow you to shoot two higher-power shots. Expires and is no longer usable after it is empty. This weapon counts as a third weapon, so you don't have to worry about it swapping out for one of your other two.

·Weapon Swap System: You start with the Power Beam, you can pick up and swap out from there. Don't want the Power Beam? No problemo! Swap it out with one of the five other Beams available. Your old Beams do not show up on the ground when swapped, or when you are killed.

·A fully-3d HUD that moves as you move, with swapping icons for each of the beams and a working missile counter

·Custom first-person animations for the beam cannon, including firing missiles, charging, and firing

·A Metroid hatchling as the oddball and flag that moves inside its’ containment pod, with custom idle animation

·Stunning beam FX and a unique gameplay experience with 6 different balanced beams to choose from

·Be rewarded with a healthpack as you kill your enemies or snag one from a downed ally, which adds a new element to the gameplay experience
